Seeking professional support helping to find the right form of charitable organisation and constitution writing.
I run UK-based dog rescue since 2020: adoption/rehome and life-long RBU and support for UK and foreign rescue dogs. At the moment I am registered as LTD, but considering to register charity (same aim: supporting and finding forever home for surrender and abandoned dogs, both UK and foreign). Even being LTD I do not get profit and work on not- paid position. All funds coming as adoption fees (often addionally including my personal money) go to cover the veterinary bills, kennels, and other support. Additionally since March 2022, I run a humanitarian mission helping war dogs in Ukraine and also have certain expenses here.
I came to the point when I feel I need to register a charity to be able to apply for grants to help to cover veterinary bills for rescue dogs, who are under my Rescue Back-Up. Plus seeking donations from pet food-production companies to support struggling animals in Ukraine I found out that many pet food manufactures are happy to give food donations, but can only do it to registered charities.
My concerns are which form of charity is better to choose taking in account that almost all work around rescue and humanitarian mission is done by myself? I learnt the basics of charity, know about trustees and other.
I need to have good control on my rescue activities and operations, as have life-long responsibility for all dogs re-homed via my rescue. I am happy to continue to volunteer on not-paid position. But same time, being practical, I can assume that one day in some future I might wish to take CEO paid position, just because would not be able to continue my paid 2 jobs and same time provide quality adoption service, as even now it takes from me 5-7 hours a day to run my rescue with no days off even if I have a few volunteers helping. As far as I understand this and may other nuances should be foreseen in the Charity Constitution, so it is important to write this governing document correctly before application.
Will be very thankful for offer of competent help with my question and constitution.
