Database recommendations for grantmakers

Hello! I work for a small grant-maker and currently manage everything using Outlook and Excel.
I would like to put a database in place to improve and develop our grant management. I have used Salesforce in the past as a fundraiser and am considering that as they have grant-making option.
Does anyone have any experience of using Salesforce or other databases they would suggest I consider?
