How to protect against possible legal attacks?

Hello all, I work for a small charity that investigate companies which exposes us to legal attacks. I intend to get legal advice but as a starting point I'm looking for any advice on what I need to take into consideration in putting together a risk mitigation plan e.g.

What mechanisms or even specific types of contractual clauses can be used by the charity to accept the liability risks of legal attacks and minimise the personal risk that employees / contractors are exposed to? Same for the legal representatives, trustees etc?
Are there specific kinds of insurance policies to protect against this type of legal risk?
What general best practices / recommendations do you have to minimise / protect against the legal attacks?
