Having worked at HSBC (formerly Midland Bank) for 28 years, I left the stress of IT and corporate life in 2001. I started volunteering at my local animal charity and saw so many pitiful sights and their need for hard cash. It was here I started to learn about funding bids, and was hooked into helping.
I set up a voluntary group in 2002 focusing on an area that the existing charity couldn't help and then progressed to founding charitable company in 2006. Only employing 6 years ago, having opened 2 shops, then settled on 1 shop, I am now an employed CEO of a reputable charity along with 10 others in 8 f/t positions. Providing a support to pets and people in an area of the country that desperately needs an animal welfare centre.
I'm proud of what I and the team have achieved over the short 16 years, but now need it to be less reliant on myself and 1 key member of staff. The charity needs to grow its own wings and attract more nice charitable people to continue in its growth.
