Hi, Im animal crazy and thats why I volunteer for a small non-profit, volunteer-run UK reg Charity - Animal Friends of Turkey (AFOT). We rescue dogs with little or no future in Turkey due to abuse, neglect or abandonment, mend them mind, body & soul and when ready we rehome them in loving UK forever homes.
I became involved in June 2020 when we adopted our Turkish prince - Ruzgar (meaning Wind in Turkish, and not because he runs fast!) - the Boxer, as seen in my profile pic - thought Id better explain! Hed been to hell and back but now he's firmly in heaven loving his life in rural South Yorkshire.
AFOT began in May 2018 and has rescued hundreds of dogs despite a worldwide pandemic and Turkish transport ban. We have over 130 dogs in Turkey at any one time and as soon as a dog is adopted their space is filled by the thousands of desperately needy dogs just waiting for their chance to find the peace and love of a home of their own.
Im looking for help in applying for grants as finding them for animals isnt easy, with the main focus currently on the cost of living crisis and mental health, although in this regard I firmly believe that when a person rescues a dog, its vice versa too. As a dog rescue charity we see it every time a dog is delivered to their new adopter. In that moment dogs and humans adopt one another and this bond just grows from that moment on.
The physical and emotional mutual benefit of having a dog is immense; improving confidence and mental well-being whilst developing physical strength and mobility. Its wondrous and this power of animals is an element of rescue that is too often overlooked.
If you can provide any insights or advice on raising funds to help us to continue to help them, please get in touch - Im all ears. Thanks.
